One of a pair of projects for which BWCP was appointed in competition in 1988 with the aim of finding an economic futurefor the rescue of this spectacular listed underground structure. The associated project at 42 Gloucester Avenue [see OLD STUFF] has been successfully completed.
A complex 'flexible' planning and listed building application has been formulated whch allows a variety of concurrent or alternative uses including an entertainment venue, a health club, retail all of which include some measure of public access and a gallery explaining the history of the vaults which date from 1837.
The project is on hold pending completion of the section of the West Coast Main Line upgrading overhead. AHeritage Lottery Fund applicatiuon has been drafted.
